Tennessee Lawmakers to Celebrate 'Ag Day on the Hill'

NASHVILLE – Tennessee lawmakers will celebrate Ag Day on the Hill on April 13. The day will highlight the importance of farming and forestry to the state of Tennessee and create awareness of an industry that contributes more than $60 billion a year to the state’s economy and employs nearly half a million residents. Ag Day on the Hill will feature a variety of events and exhibits, including special presentations to the House Agriculture Committee, livestock displays, a milking contest and many representatives from the agriculture and forest industries.
 
This year, Second Harvest Food Bank of Middle Tennessee will have collection bins available at Legislative Plaza throughout the day. TDA encourages all participants, exhibitors and visitors to bring nonperishable items for donation.

Livestock and Farm Equipment on Display: Livestock, including dairy cows, chickens and goats will be on display outside legislative plaza.

Exhibits: Exhibitors will have displays throughout Legislative Plaza providing information on the many types of agriculture in the state of Tennessee.
9:15 a.m.
Special Presentations to the House Agriculture Committee. House committee members will hear from farmers and industry-related organizations on current issues and activities. 
11:00 a.m.
Milking Contest between House and Senate Members. A cash donation will be made to Second Harvest Food Bank of Middle Tennessee in honor of the winner.  
11:15 a.m.
Ag Day Proclamation: Presentation of a Governor’s proclamation recognizing the importance of agriculture and forestry to the state.
