TDOT Reminds West Tennessee Motorists: Work Zones Deserve Your Undivided Attention

National Work Zone Awareness Week April 19-23
  
MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The Tennessee Department of Transportation will mark the beginning of National Work Zone Awareness Week with an event in Memphis on Tuesday, April 20 at 10:00 a.m. The event will be held at one of Memphis’ largest work zone sites, I-55 at Mallory Avenue. 
Mr. Willie Jones, a TDOT employee injured in a work zone in April 2009, will talk about the incident and will encourage drivers to give work zones their undivided attention. Jonathan Dodd, an engineer with Dement Construction who works on the I-55 project, will also talk about the constant dangers of working near traffic in highway work zones.
 
Monday’s event will begin at 10:00 a.m. on the I-55 at Mallory Avenue work zone. For directions, please see the attached map. Parking for news vehicles and live trucks will be available. The event will last approximately 30 minutes.
