Crews will be back on site Friday to pave the roadway

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The Tennessee Department of Transportation reopened a section of Interstate 240 eastbound Thursday evening at 6:30 p.m. after repairing a large sinkhole near mile marker 13. The sinkhole occurred around 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 24 forcing TDOT to close the two left lanes of I-240 eastbound near Walnut Grove. Crews worked around the clock to reopen the roadway. Workers located and repaired the leaking median drain and box culvert wall, then backfilled the hole, placed base stone and laid a base layer of asphalt in order to reopen the roadway Thursday night.

On Friday, March 26, between 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. crews will again close the two left lanes in order to place final pavement and road striping and reopen the roadway.
