Tennessee Board of Medical Examiners Suspends Licenses of Two Nashville Physicians

NASHVILLE – The Tennessee Board of Medical Examiners has suspended the licenses of Mireille Lalanne, MD and Visuvalingam Vilvarajah, MD. The suspension of both doctors’ licenses was effective January 29, 2010. As a result of the summary suspensions, both Lalanne and Vilvarajah were immediately prohibited from practicing medicine in the state. Both worked at the same Nashville medical practice.

Lalanne’s license was suspended for the following:

• Conviction in Kentucky for facilitating in trafficking in controlled substances in the first degree.

Vilvarajah’s license was suspended for the following:

• Conviction in Kentucky for facilitating in trafficking in controlled substances in the first degree.

Lalanne and Vilvarajah have the opportunity to appear at informal hearings before the Board of Medical Examiners. Lalanne’s hearing is scheduled for February 2, 2010, at 5 p.m., CT. Vilvarajah’s hearing is set for February 12, 2010, at 5 p.m. CT. At the respective hearings, the board will determine whether the public health, safety or welfare imperatively required emergency action and whether each physician’s license should remain suspended pending the outcome of a contested case proceeding in the matter. The hearings will be canceled if the physicians decline participation.

Lalanne was originally licensed to practice medicine in Tennessee in 1982.

Vilvarajah was first licensed to practice in the state in 1975. He surrendered his license to practice medicine in May 1989 following two felony convictions. The physician’s license was reinstated with a five year period of probation in May 1993
