Hawkins County Health Department Receives $499,927 in Federal WIC Funds

CHURCH HILL − Tennessee Health Commissioner Susan R. Cooper, MSN, RN, will join other state and local officials on Monday, November 1st, to present $499,927 in federal funding from the United States Department of Agriculture for the Women, Infants and Children Special Supplemental Nutrition Program to the Hawkins County Health Department.

The funding will be used for renovations to the Hawkins County Health Department in Church Hill to improve services to WIC clients. The Hawkins County Health Department has provided services to more than 2,800 WIC participants over the past year, which resulted in almost $920,000 in vouchers redeemed in the county.

The renovations will include construction of a 2,789 square foot addition to the health department facility, creating space for additional clinic treatment rooms, a private waiting area and a nutrition education room.
