August TWRC Meeting to Be Held at Paris Landing State Park

The TWRC serves as the governing body for the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency. The meeting days are a Thursday-Friday, a change from the previous Wednesday-Thursday meeting days for the commission.

 

The TWRA will make its recommendations concerning the 2009-10 waterfowl hunting seasons. The TWRC sets the state’s waterfowl seasons each year within the framework determined by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. TWRA is proposing a 60-day season for duck hunting, with one split similar to past years, that would end Jan. 31, 2010 and a 6-duck bag limit. TWRA has also recommended using the maximum number of days allowed for goose hunting seasons.

 

The sport fishing regulations preview for 2010-11 will be presented. Sport fishing regulations are usually established during the October meeting of the TWRC. Fisheries Division personnel will also present updates on the status of turtles, paddlefish, and preview of the American Fisheries Society annual meeting which is being held in Nashville in late August.

 

On an annual basis, TWRA makes available public dove fields at selected Wildlife Management Areas and private lands leased for dove hunting. An update will be made on this public hunting program.

 

Committee meetings will be conducted during the afternoon on August 20, beginning at 1 p.m. The TWRC meeting will begin at 9 a.m. on August 21. The meetings are open to the public.
