One Boating-Related Fatality Reported Over July Fourth Holiday

NASHVILLE --- The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency (TWRA) reports that there was one boating-related fatality over the July Fourth holiday weekend. The accident claimed the life of a Murfreesboro woman on Kentucky Lake near Paris Landing State Park in the evening on Thursday, July 2.

There were six total accidents reported resulting in injuries and nine that caused property damage. The holiday period began Thursday evening and continued through Sunday, July 5.
 
TWRA boating officers made 17 boating under the influence (BUI) arrests over the weekend. Officers made four of the arrests on Chickamauga Lake in TWRA Region III.
 
In 2008 over the July Fourth holiday, there were 18 accidents reported over the period resulting in eight injuries and a single fatality which occurred on Nickajack Lake. TWRA officers made 27 BUI arrests over the holiday period.
