Company is Receiving Both Awards for the First Time

NASHVILLE – Tennessee Department of Labor & Workforce Development Commissioner James Neeley announced that Excel TSD of Tennessee, LLC in Memphis was chosen to receive the Governor’s Award of Excellence for Workplace Safety and the SHARP Award.

"Excel TSD of Tennessee has demonstrated strong commitment to maintaining a safe and healthy workplace," said Neeley, who presented the awards to the company today at The Spaghetti Warehouse located at 40 Huling Avenue in Memphis. “It is a privilege to be able to present this facility with both of these safety awards today.”

The Governor’s Safety Award honors Tennessee employers and employees who meet a required number of hours without workplace injuries serious enough to cause an employee to miss a day of work or restrict normal job activities. The number of hours required is based on the size of the company.

The SHARP award, designed for employers with fewer than 250 workers in high-hazard industrial classifications, is one of the state’s highest honors for workplace safety and health. The main incentive for participation in the SHARP award program is the desire by employers to promote a safe and healthy workplace. The program also allows employers to be removed from programmed compliance inspection lists for a period of 12 months.

Excel TSD of Tennessee, LLC is a commercial hazardous waste storage and treatment facility that employs 15 people. The facility has qualified for these awards by working three years (2006-2008) without a lost time or restricted duty incident and by having an injury and illness rate at or below the national average. This is the company’s first time receiving either of these awards.
