Escapee Jenkins Captured

WARTBURG - An inmate who escaped TDOC custody is now back behind bars.  Josey Tee Jenkins, 29, walked away from a prison work crew in the Lancing community of Morgan County just before noon Monday. 

TDOC Internal Affairs Agents, with assistance from the U.S. Marshals Service and local authorities, captured Jenkins Tuesday morning at a Birmingham, Alabama hotel.  Jenkins is being housed at an Alabama facility awaiting extradition to Tennessee where he will be charged with escape.

He was serving a 16-year sentence for especially aggravated robbery and forgery convictions in Loudon County.  Jenkins had been in TDOC custody since October 2000 and was due to be released in 2014.  He was being housed at the Morgan County Correctional Complex in Wartburg at the time of his escape.

A Bluff City, Tennessee woman has been charged with permitting and facilitating an escape, criminal conspiracy and criminal responsiblity for the conduct of another.  Daphanie Carty, 34, is also being held in an Alabama jail awaiting extradition to Tennessee.
