NASHVILLE – The Tennessee Department of Education today is proud to announce the United States Distance Learning Associated (USDLA) has recognized e4TN, Tennessee’s online curriculum resource, as a leader in best practices in distance learning.

During the USDLA’s 2009 International Distance Learning Awards in Missouri, e4TN was recognized for Best Practices in: 21st Century Distance Learning, Excellence in Distance Learning Teaching and Distance Learning Programming.

“We are very excited to know that our program for providing students access to curriculum is garnering national attention,” Education Commissioner Timothy Webb said. “As we increase standards and curriculum next year with the Tennessee Diploma Project, it’s going to be even more important that children have access to these courses.”

Tennessee’s e4TN program, “effective and engaging e-learning environment”, offers online courses to students throughout the state. The program employs full-time teachers and technical staff, as well as administrative and supportive staff to ensure every child has an effective experience. A variety of courses are available in every course subject during each semester.

Students may take these courses for many reasons, including to ensure continue academic progress, study a course in a specific area or to supplement current progress if a student is gifted.

“It’s very important that we reach students via the technology they use these days and that’s exactly what we’re doing with this program,” said Dan Long, State Executive Director of Assessment, Evaluation and Research. “These types of programs make learning more accessible for students across the board.”
