Major Campground Renovation Scheduled at Bledsoe Creek State Park

GALLATIN, Tenn. – Bledsoe Creek State Park has announced that construction will begin on its campground renovation project on Monday, May 11, 2009.

Visitors may park vehicles at the boat launch on Ziegler Fort Road to access the park’s six miles of hiking trails, though no traffic will be allowed within the park during construction. The construction project is expected to be complete in early November.

Designed in the late 1960s by the Corps of Engineers, the 55-site campground at Bledsoe Creek State Park primarily catered to tents and pop-up trailers. The updated design will include improved, level campsites 65 feet in length and 25 feet wide, along with 50-amp electrical service, paved sites, new borders and fire rings, grills, lantern holders, picnic tables and campsites approved by the American Disabilities Act. The renovations also will include new water lines throughout the park and all park roads will be paved.

“While we regret the inconvenience to our park visitors, the campground’s renovation will be a much needed face lift and we will be able to better serve not only tent campers but RVs and trailers in the future,” said Wayne Bomar, park manager. “The project will benefit park users in the long run and with no weather delays, we hope to have the construction completed by early November.”

According to Bomar, restricting vehicle access to the park allows for the renovation project to move forward quickly while ensuring the public’s safety. “We ask that all hikers in the park remain on the designated trails and not walk on the roads during the renovation,” he added.

Located off of Highway 25 in Sumner County, this 164-acre park is situated on the Bledsoe Creek embayment of the U.S. Corps of Engineers Old Hickory Reservoir near the old 1780s settlement of Cairo.
