NASHVILLE --- The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Commission will hold its regularly scheduled meeting on Wednesday-Thursday, April 22-23, at the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency Region II Ray Bell Building in Nashville.

Among the items on the April agenda will be TWRA’s recommendations for the 2009-10 hunting and trapping seasons. The Wildlife Management Committee meeting will offer an opportunity to review results from the past hunting seasons as provided by the agency. The TWRC and the public will be made aware of any recommended changes for the upcoming season.

The various presentations expected to be made for information purposes will be on big game, small game, manner and means of hunting, trapping, Wildlife Management Areas and National Wildlife Refuges. The TWRC will act upon any recommendations at its May meeting.

A presentation on the status of the October elk hunt application process and the elk hunt Web site will be made. Applications for he first managed elk hunt in Tennessee began on April 1 and continues through May 31.

TWRA has been requested by the Tennessee Valley Authority to establish a temporary “no wake zone” on the Emory River in Roane County. The zone will include the area where dredging has begun for the Kingston ash spill operations.

The zone will protect recreational boaters from submerged hazards, staged TVA equipment and will minimize the impact to water turbidity from disturbed ash during the dredging operations. The emergency rule will be presented to the boating committee.

Don King, Chief, Information and Education Division, will update commission members on the Wild Side Weekly television program. The program began its telecast on Nashville’s News Channel 5+ (Channel 50) the weekend of April 3-5.

The TWRC meeting begins at 1 p.m. on April 22 and starts at 9 a.m. on April 23. The public is invited to attend.
