TWRA to Conduct Seminar in Conjunction with Mid-South Boat Show

NASHVILLE --- The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency (TWRA) Boating Division will be hosting a short seminar in conjunction with the Mid-South Boat and Sport Show in Memphis. The meeting will be held on Saturday, Feb. 21 beginning at 1 p.m. in Room Seminar C of the Agricenter.

The seminar is part of the TWRA Boating Division’s attempt to facilitate more active partnerships between the TWRA boating groups, boating enthusiasts, stakeholders and other interested parties to advance mutual goals. The TWRA is hosting four seminars across the state and is hopeful that this year’s initial meetings will grow into a regular meeting on an annual basis.

"We specifically want to identify agendas and objectives to develop agreement of shared action plans,” said Betsy Woods, TWRA Boating Education Coordinator. “We hope to establish at least one annual meeting to assess, evaluate and implement shared objectives.”

The first portion of the seminar will be a power point presentation about the TWRA Boating Division and what its mission is and how TWRA maintains programs that meet its mission.  The second part will be an electronic survey that is also a power point-like presentation.

Each participant will be given a handheld electronic device similar in appearance to a TV remote control. There is a keyboard on this device so that the person can answer the multiple choice questions shown on the slides.  The questions are like any survey, first establishing demographics, boat ownership, boating experience, then questions about issues in relation to recreational boating.

The results are immediate and anonymous and the data from each session will be analyzed to pinpoint any weaknesses in the programs or reveal new programs that may need to be addressed in the future. There will be an opportunity for comments as well and of course, a small token of appreciation for participating will be offered as well to the attendees.

Seminars have been conducted in Nashville and Chattanooga and the final of the four sessions will be held Feb. 28 in Kingsport.
