Recovery Act Management Chief Named "Administrator of the Year"

NASHVILLE –Tennessee Recovery Act Management Office administrator Mike Morrow has been named Administrator of the Year by the Tennessee Chapter of the American Society for Public Administration (ASPA).  The award is given each year to the Tennessee administrator who has made a significant impact during the past year on his or her organization and the landscape of Tennessee administration.

“Mike is a strong leader and manager whom I have relied on greatly for the past seven years in a number of key state efforts,” Finance & Administration Commissioner Dave Goetz said. “His professional commitment to leading the Recovery Act Management team – in addition to his regular duties – is indicative of his diligence and loyalty as a public servant.”

Mr. Morrow is in his 34th year of public service with the State of Tennessee.  He is a graduate of the University of Tennessee with a bachelor’s degree in accounting, and is a graduate of the Tennessee Government Executive Institute.  He began his career with the state as an internal auditor and has been at Finance & Administration for the past 22 years. 

“It’s a great privilege to work in public service, and to be a part of the state’s efforts to serve Tennesseans,” Morrow said.  “It’s an even greater honor to be recognized by my colleagues in a year that has featured some difficult challenges for the state, and this award is truly a highlight in my public service career.”

Each year, ASPA honors federal, state and local government employees to help educate citizens about the ways in which government serves the citizenry.

According to ASPA, the Administrator of the Year award is given annually to an individual who is bringing positive attention to the profession of public administration and to government, and who deserves recognition for outstanding achievement.   

Since 1939, the American Society for Public Administration has represented all forums of public service, advocating for greater effectiveness in government.  The membership of the Tennessee Chapter of ASPA includes individuals working in local, state, and federal agencies, in nonprofit organizations and as scholars throughout middle Tennessee.
