East Tennesee Top Ten Fugitive in Custody

Bluff City, TN- A 2008 addition to TBI’s Top Ten Most Wanted fugitives was arrested and taken into custody in Gates County, North Carolina. He was armed at the time of his arrest by the US Marshals.

Abrey Wayne Fortner, 31, last known address 2505 Gilmerton Road #1, Chesapeake, VA was wanted by the Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office for First Degree Murder. On September 5, 2008, Fortner entered the victim’s apartment at 4988 Bluff City Highway #3, Bluff City, TN and stabbed to death Arthur Theodore Burchard Jr., 40. The picture to the right was taken with the victim’s cell phone. Fortner was indicted by a Sullivan County Grand Jury in October of 2008 and added to TBI’s Most Wanted list at that time.
 
Fortner waived extradition back to Virginia. He will face charges there for Aggravated Assault, Burglary and Probation Violation before being extradited to Tennessee.
