TDOT Media Advisory: Additional Traffic Lanes on I-40 Between Hall of Fame Drive and Cherry Street

Knoxville, Tenn.  – As part of the ongoing SmartFIX40 project, the Tennessee Department of Transportation announces today that one additional lane of I-40 eastbound and westbound will be open between Cherry Street, exit 390 and Hall of Fame Drive, exit 389. The new lane configuration will be in place and open to traffic Friday afternoon, September 12, 2008 in time for Saturday’s first University of Tennessee home football game to expedite traffic flow to and from downtown Knoxville and the stadium area.

Football fans traveling I-40 west

Hall of Fame Drive (Exit 389) to Neyland Drive

Cherry Street (Exit 390) to Magnolia Avenue

Rutledge Pike (Exit 392) to Magnolia Avenue

Football fans traveling I-40 east:

University Avenue/Middlebrook Pike (Exit 386A)

Alcoa Highway (Exit 386B) to Neyland Drive

17th Street (Exit 387) to Cumberland Avenue

Henley Street (Exit 388) into downtown and Cumberland Drive

James White Parkway (Exit 388A) to Neyland Drive

For game day traffic information, motorists can tune their radios to 1620 AM on football Saturdays.
