Media Advisory: TDOT to Dedicate Highway Worker Memorial

NASHVILLE - Tennessee Department of Transportation Commissioner Gerald Nicely will join family members of TDOT workers killed in the line of duty at the Smith County Welcome Center on Wednesday, September 24 to dedicate the new Highway Worker Memorial. The new black granite memorial honors the 106 highway workers killed in the line of duty since 1948.  
Following the unveiling of the memorial, the names of each of those workers will be read and family members will have an opportunity to lay a rose at the foot of the stone. Transfer paper will also be available for family members to rub across the name of their loved one(s).
 
Wednesday's event will begin at 10:30 AM at the Smith County Welcome Center just off Interstate 40, and will last approximately 45 minutes.

Travel Note: Those traveling from the west should exit at the Welcome Center exit located at mile marker 267. Those traveling from the east should proceed past the welcome center exit to the Buffalo Valley exit (mile marker 268) where they should turn around and go west on I-40 where they can enter the welcome center at exit 267 from the westbound side.
