Department of Commerce and Insurance Announces Financial Literacy Essay Contest for Tennessee High School Seniors

NASHVILLE - The Securities Division for the State of Tennessee, Department of Commerce and Insurance, is sponsoring an essay contest for high school seniors in Tennessee.Students are asked to write an essay on the subject of “Your Financial Future -- Your Decisions.” Students will convey how they will plan for their financial future and explain the justification of their choices.

There will be two winners from each division of the state -- East, Middle and West. First-place winners will receive a $1,500 savings bond; second-place winners will be awarded a $1,000 savings bond. This information has been sent to all public high schools throughout the state and is also available at www.tn.gov/commerce/securities.

Certificates and savings bonds will be presented in the spring of 2009 during the school’s senior awards programs.
