Jaunt In The Joint

Monday, September 15, 2008 | 05:00am

NASHVILLE - The seventh annual "Jaunt in the Joint" will be held this Wednesday at the Charles Bass Correctional Complex.  The marathon, half marathon and 5-K run is sponsored by the Nashville Striders and helps raise awareness of health living and behavioral issues among inmates.

Nearly 50 inmates will join two dozen striders for the run, which also teaches inmates to set goals to accomplish a specific objective.  The event is part of an effort by the TDOC to reduce recidivism in Tennessee.

Many of the striders keep in touch with the inmates, upon their release, to help with their transition back to the free world.  The striders also donate gently used running shoes so the inmates will have proper footwear.  "We're all runners, sharing a common passion, no matter where we have slept the night before," said Peter Pressman, President of Nashville Striders.

The media is invited to attend.
