TWRA Schedules Meeting To Discuss No-Wake Zone At Percy Priest

The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency will hold a public meeting Tuesday, Feb. 5, beginning at 7:00 p.m., to discuss a proposal that would widen a no wake zone in a Percy Priest Reservoir cove adjacent to the YMCA Camp.

The meeting will be held at the Stones River Hunter Education Center, at 2618 Hobson Pike in Nashville.

“The cove is on the lower half of the lake not far from Percy Priest Dam,” noted Jeff Winfree, a boating education coordinator for TWRA. “There is an existing no wake zone already there, but we want to widen the zone because we plan to use it as major part of a boating safety education effort beginning this summer.”

The widened zone would force boats and personal watercraft to slow down sooner when entering the cove, but it would not prohibit boat traffic.

““Fishing and other boating recreation will still be allowed,” said Winfree. “We have plans to educate thousands of youngsters in the years ahead about boating education and this cove will play a major role in our classes. We want it to be as safe a place as possible to teach.”
