Governor Awards Training Grant to Carlex Glass Company

NASHVILLE – Governor Phil Bredesen and Tennessee Department of Labor & Workforce Development Commissioner James Neeley have awarded $49,974 to Carlex Glass Company in Vonore, Tenn. The grant will pay for training in use of robotics and programmable logic controllers for 45 employees.

“I am pleased these funds will be used for industrial automation training in Monroe County,” said Governor Bredesen.  “These grants provide training employees need to remain competitive and help our state move forward with providing skilled workers and high paying jobs.”

“I am proud to award this grant money to help train workers in Monroe County,” said Commissioner Neeley.  “Since July 1, 2007, the Workforce Development Division has obligated $1.5 million to Tennessee companies in Incumbent Worker projects, training more than 5,000 workers.”

“I commend the Governor and Commissioner for helping Tennessee companies with training grants,” said Senator Randy McNally.  “The Incumbent Worker grants are an integral part of the Governor’s special emphasis on job development in our state.”

The East Tennessee Human Resource Agency was instrumental in awarding the grant to Carlex Glass Company.

Representative Jimmy Matlock also represents Monroe County.
