TWRA Winter Rainbow Trout Stocking Program Resumes

NASHVILLE --- More than 82,000 rainbow trout are on schedule to be stocked into Tennessee waters from December through March, thanks to the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency’s winter trout release program.
“These fisheries are stocked to provide anglers with an opportunity to catch and harvest rainbow tout, said Jason Henegar, TWRA Fisheries Management Division “These fish provide a great fishing opportunity during winter, but will not survive as the water temperatures begin to rise in spring and early summer."
The trout will average about 10 inches in length. The daily creel limit is seven, but there is no size limit.
The program provides numerous close to home trout fishing opportunities for Middle and West Tennessee anglers during the winter months. These fisheries also provide a great opportunity to introduce children or first-time anglers to fishing.
“It is a great way to spend those winter days, when the temperatures are not freezing, outdoors with friends and family,” Henegar said.
TWRA has added VFW Lake in Lawrenceburg as a new site and will resume stocking at Cumberland Mountain State Park in Crossville after last year’s renovations.
