Two West Tennessee Projects Require Weekend Lane Closures

NASHVILLE – Motorists in West Tennessee are advised to plan for weekend lane closures on Interstate 240 in Memphis and Interstate 40 in Fayette County due to bridge work.

South Parkway Bridges Over I-240:
Tennessee Department of Transportation crews will be performing bridge deck repairs to the South Parkway Bridge over I-240 in Memphis beginning Friday, December 12 at 7:00 p.m. through Monday, December 15 at 5:00 a.m.  The South Parkway Bridge will be reduced to one lane in each direction during the work.  The work will also require intermittent lane closures on I-240 at exit 28 throughout the weekend. At least one lane in each direction on I-240 will remain open at all times.  Crews will be working to repair the bridge deck on both South Parkway Bridges.  As crews work to repair the bridge decks alternating lanes will be closed on I-240 beneath the bridges to prevent debris from falling onto passing vehicles.  There will also be intermittent ramp closures at this location.

I-40 Bridge Over Wilder Creek:
Crews in Fayette County will also continue makign needed repairs to the Interstate 40 Westbound and Eastbound Bridges over Wilder Creek this weekend.  As a result, Interstate 40 near mile marker 34 in Fayette County will be reduced to one lane throughout the weekend.  I-40 westbound will be reduced beginning Friday, December 12 at 7:00 p.m.  Crews will reduce the I-40 eastbound lanes at 11:00 p.m.  The closures will remain in place until Sunday, December 14 at 10:00 p.m.  During this time, crews will repair the concrete surface of the bridges.

TDOT will use portable message boards to alert motorists of the closures.  Law enforcement will also be present in the areas to assist with traffic.  Drivers should exercise caution as they travel through these work zones.
