Putnam County Workforce Employer Outreach Committee to Host Meeting

NASHVILLE –The Putnam County Workforce Employer Outreach Committee (WEOC) is hosting an employer forum on Tuesday, November 18, at noon, at the Cookeville-Putnam County Chamber of Commerce located at One, West First Street, Cookeville. Labor and Workforce Development Commissioner James Neeley will be the keynote speaker at the event. He will be speaking on issues that impact the department of labor, workers’ compensation, workforce development and Tennessee’s state budget.
 
“I look forward to speaking to and meeting with the employers of Putnam and surrounding counties,” said Neeley. “It is very important for employers to know the services of the Tennessee Department of Labor and Workforce Development and what we have to offer them.”
 
Officers for the Putnam County WEOC are Jim Martin, Vice Chairman and CEO of 1st Mercantile Bank, chairman; Mark C. Travis, Attorney, Wimberly Lawson Seale Wright & Daves, PLLC, vice-chairman; and Sheryl Ransom, HR Representative Perdue Farms Inc., secretary.
 
The employer committee forums are open to employers wishing to become involved. Some of the benefits of attending are the following: to have an opportunity to share ideas and concerns with the Department of Labor and Workforce Development; to enhance your company's awareness of employment issues and legislation that affect your business operation; to gain a better understanding of the many programs and services the department provides; and to take advantage of a chance to network with various divisions within the department and build a personal working relationship with an employer services specialist.

Future WEOC meetings will include a variety of topics ranging from the Tennessee Career Centers and Adult Education to Tennessee Occupational Safety and Health and Unemployment Insurance.
