Safety Record Dates Back to January 2004

NASHVILLE – Tennessee Department of Labor & Workforce Development Commissioner James Neeley announced that Kennametal Inc. in White House was chosen to receive the Governor’s Award of Excellence for Workplace Safety.

"Kennametal has demonstrated strong commitment to maintaining a safe and healthy workplace," said Jim Flanagan, Voluntary Protection Program Manager for the Tennessee Occupational Safety and Health Administration, who presented the Governor’s Award of Excellence to the company today at the company’s facility located at 107 SCT Drive in White House. “The evaluation criteria for this award are challenging, and this company has worked extremely hard to meet and exceed the standards the award requires.”

The Governor’s Award honors Tennessee employers and employees who meet a required number of hours without workplace injuries serious enough to cause an employee to miss a day of work or restrict normal job activities. The number of hours required is based on the size of the company.

Kennametal Inc. is a gage manufacturer employing 33 people in White House. The facility has qualified for the Governor’s Award by working more than 313,000 man-hours without a lost time or restricted duty injury. This accident free record dates back to January 2004.

“We have developed a safety culture at the facility, one in which our employees watch out for each other,” said Brad Morgan, Plant Manager. “An active safety team, led by EHS coordinator BJ Richards, has developed this safety culture.”
