Career Centers across the State to Host Job Fairs for Veterans

NASHVILLE – Governor Bredesen has proclaimed November as “Hire Vets First Month” in Tennessee. Career Centers all across the state will be hosting job fairs at various locations throughout the month of November. The Career Centers provide employment services to more than 35,000 veterans annually.

“I’m very pleased to proclaim November as ‘Hire Vets First Month’ to honor all of the Veterans that have served this country so diligently,” Bredesen said. “It is important for employers to utilize the skills and assets veterans have to offer. These statewide job fairs are an excellent opportunity for employers and veterans seeking jobs to connect.”

“We would like to show our deepest gratitude to veterans for all of their hard work and dedication,” said Tennessee Department of Labor and Workforce Development Commissioner James Neeley. “These job fairs are a way for us to help give back to the people who have given us so much.”

The Tennessee Career Centers offer a knowledgeable veterans’ staff to provide one-on-one service in matching employer needs with veterans to make the transition from military to civilian work a little easier. Our services include employment-related testing, training information, skills assessment, assistance with job referral and job search techniques and local job market information. Designed with valuable input from businesses and private industry statewide, the result is a system able to provide maximum workforce results from one convenient location.

Tennessee's veteran population is approximately one half million. Annually, our local offices provide some type of service to more than 35,000 veterans. All U.S. military veterans are eligible for job referral and referral to training programs through the Tennessee Department of Labor and Workforce Development offices (TDLWD).
