Tennessee Board of Medical Examiners Suspends License of Fayetteville Physician

NASHVILLE – The Tennessee Department of Health announces that the Board of Medical Examiners has summarily suspended the license of Samuel M. Ashby, MD, of Fayetteville. As a result of the suspension, Ashby is immediately prohibited from practicing medicine in the state.

Ashby’s license was suspended for the following:
 
-          Engaging in the practice of medicine when mentally or physically unable to safety do so.
 
The suspension of Ashby’s license became effective November 19, 2008, and will remain in effect until and unless Ashby appears at an informal hearing, review, conference or scheduled contested hearing of this matter before the Board of Medical Examiners. The Board, at that meeting, at its discretion will order the summary suspension lifted or revoke, suspend or otherwise discipline Ashby’s license to practice medicine in Tennessee.
 
Ashby was originally licensed to practice medicine in Tennessee in 1977.
