Motorists Advised to Seek Alternate Routes During Weekend Closure

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – The Tennessee Department of Transportation advises that I-24 East in Chattanooga will be temporarily closed from mile marker 178 to mile marker 179.5 for concrete repairs this weekend.  The closure begins Friday, November 14, 2008 at 7:00 p.m. EST and will end by 6:00 a.m. EST on Monday, November 17.  The area where the repairs will occur is near the I-24/US-27 split in downtown Chattanooga.

The following detours will be posted:

I-24 East traffic will be rerouted from I-24 onto Exit 178 (US-27 North/Downtown Chattanooga/US-11/41/64/Lookout Mt./Broad St.) and rerouted back onto I-24 East to avoid construction activity.

US-27 South traffic traveling to I-24 East will be rerouted to the far left lane on I-24.

(Please see accompanying map for more information on the detour routes.)

One lane on I-24 East and US-27 South will be maintained at all times. Heavy congestion is expected. Local traffic is encouraged to avoid this area and seek alternate routes. Motorists traveling in the area should use caution and be alert for changing conditions. Should weather delay the repairs, they will begin as soon as possible after conditions improve.
