NASHVILLE --- Rob Fisher is the winner of the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency Wear It Tennessee! pledge drawing and received a $1,000 gift card provided by Wal-Mart, one of the largest local sponsors of the campaign.

The campaign "Wear It Tennessee!" launched on Memorial Day weekend and continued through Labor Day weekend. A new, customized Yamaha AR-230, donated by the company was manned by trained TWRA staff. The Wear It! crew gave away approximately 900 inflatable life jackets free of charge, to boaters who pledged to wear the jackets at all times while boating.

Fisher, a Dickson resident, qualified for the grand prize by signing a Wear It Tennessee! pledge over Memorial Day weekend for the crew on Percy Priest Lake after learning about the campaign from the news. Fisher received a belt pack type inflatable life jacket. A regular boater, he signed to honor his pledge to always wear the life jacket while on a boat.

“I have never seen a life jacket like this and you put it on and forget it is there,” Fisher said. “It’s small like a fanny pack and convenient and comfortable and nothing like the big and bulky jackets.”

The gift card was presented to Fisher in a ceremony at the Dickson Wal-Mart Supercenter. Members of the Wal-Mart management team, Market Manager Charlie Rinehart and Dickson Supercenter Manager Mark Edwards, along with Betsy Woods, TWRA Boating Education Coordinator and Don King, TWRA Chief of Information and Education were present for the event.

The "Wear It Tennessee!" effort used a full range of marketing strategies and tools, including radio and theater advertising, signage at boat ramps and marinas, and events. "Wear It Tennessee!" stresses the advantages of modern styles of life jackets.

The brightly-colored boat has the “Wear It Tennessee!” slogan was very visible on the boat’s sides. The boat and crew was primarily on Percy Priest and Old Hickory Lakes, but made special appearances at other lakes in the state including Kentucky, Nickajack, and Fort Loudoun.
