Interactive Session with Students to Follow Education Hearing

NASHVILLE - Governor Phil Bredesen will lead an interactive civics lesson with Tennessee students as Bredesen kicks off his seventh round of open state budget hearings on Monday, November 17, at the State Capitol. Magnet and high school students from four school districts will first observe the Department of Education’s budget hearing via streaming video. At the conclusion of the hearing, they will participate in a virtual Q&A session with Bredesen and Education Commissioner Timothy Webb.

The participating schools include: Bradley Central and Walker Valley High (Bradley County),                    Tennessee High School (Bristol City Schools), Madison Academic Magnet School (Jackson-Madison County Schools) and West High School (Knox County Schools).

All budget hearings may be viewed live online beginning Monday, November 17, at www.tn.gov/governor.

Upon taking office in January 2003, Bredesen made a commitment to open the budget process to give Tennesseans full view of how their tax dollars fund state government.
