June 2007 Unemployment Figures - County

NASHVILLE – Tennessee’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate for June 2007 was released last week at 4.1 percent, 0.6 percentage point lower than the May rate of 4.7 percent. The United States rate was 4.5 percent for June, the same as May.

County non-seasonally adjusted unemployment rates for June 2007, released today, show that 69 counties increased, 11 counties decreased, and 15 remained unchanged.

Knox County registered the state’s lowest county unemployment rate at 3.3 percent, up from 3.1 percent in May.  Maury County had the state’s highest at 8.7 percent, up from 8.5 in May, followed by Marshall County at 7.9 percent, 0.5 percent increase from 7.4 in May.

Knoxville had the state’s lowest major metropolitan statistical area (MSA) rate at 3.4 percent, which increased from 3.3 percent in May. The Nashville-Murfreesboro MSA was 3.7 percent, up from 3.6 in May; the Chattanooga MSA was 3.9 percent, up from 3.7 percent; and the Memphis MSA was 5.0 percent, up from 4.7 percent.
