June 15 - August 5: Meeman-Shelby Forest State Park Hosts Traveling Exhibit From The Tennessee State Museum
Millington, Tenn. – Meeman-Shelby Forest State Park will host a traveling museum exhibit from the Tennessee State Museum from June 15 through August 5, 2007. The exhibit, entitled “Tennessee’s Flag: A Centennial Celebration,” will be open from 9:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. CDT each day at the park visitor center located at 910 Riddick Road in Millington, Tenn. The event is free to the public.
The exhibit, which celebrates the 100th anniversary of the adoption of the Tennessee state flag on April 17, 1905, has traveled across the state over the past year and will make its final stop at Meeman-Shelby. Visitors will be able to see the original Tennessee State flag and learn about its history and the process it took for the flag to evolve into what we know today. There will also be reproductions of previously proposed flag designs from 1861 and 1897 that were not adopted.
