Governor Awards Job Training Grant to Upper Cumberland Human Resource Agency in Cookeville

NASHVILLE – Governor Phil Bredesen and Tennessee Department of Labor & Workforce Development Commissioner James Neeley have awarded $122,220 to the Upper Cumberland Human Resource Agency in Cookeville, Tennessee . The money will address the needs of 30 participants who will be given the opportunity to enroll in the Resort Management and Quality Food Program.

“I am pleased to award this grant to the Upper Cumberland Resource Agency to assist Tennesseans in pursuit of careers in growth areas of our economy,” said Governor Bredesen. “We are working hard to match the needs of job seekers and the needs of employers as we work to strengthen and grow our economy in Tennessee.”

“I am proud to award this grant money to help fill a demand occupation,” said Commissioner Neeley. “Many of the participants in this training are already scheduled for employment once the training is complete.”

“I am pleased Governor Bredesen and Commissioner Neeley have awarded the grant to train workers in the hospitality industry,” said Senator Charlotte Burks. “This will help keep area workers employed and help improve our economy.”

“I know this grant will benefit the businesses in this high growth industry,” said Representative Henry Fincher. “And at the same time help the participants get a valuable skill to further their careers.”

“I commend the state for awarding this grant to benefit Upper Cumberland residents.” said Representative Charles Curtiss.

“We are honored to accept this grant to help these students with their training,” said Upper Cumberland Human Resource Agency Executive Director Phyllis Bennett. “A special thank you to Governor Bredesen and Commissioner Neeley for their continued support of our agency. The efforts of the Tennessee Tech University staff is reflected in the successful placement rate of these students.”
