March 2007 Unemployment Figures - County

NASHVILLE – Tennessee’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate for March 2007 was released last week at 4.7 percent, 0.2 percentage point lower than the February rate of 4.9 percent. The United States unemployment rate for the month of March was 4.4 percent.

County non-seasonally adjusted unemployment rates for March 2007, released today, show that seven counties increased, 85 counties decreased and three remained unchanged.

Williamson County registered the state’s lowest county unemployment rate at 3.2 percent, down from 3.4 percent in February. Pickett County had the state’s highest at 10.3 percent, down from 12.0 in February, followed by Clay County at 8.7 percent, down from 9.1 in February.

Knox County had the state’s lowest major metropolitan rate at 3.5 percent, which decreased from 3.9 percent in February. Davidson County was 3.9 percent, down from 4.2 in February. Hamilton County was 4.0 percent, down from 4.1 in February, and Shelby County remained unchanged from the rate of 5.6 percent
