Hunters Allowed Four Bearded Birds Statewide in Spring Turkey Season

Sunday, March 25, 2007 | 07:00pm

Hunters will be allowed to bag up to four bearded wild turkeys from counties statewide between March 31 and May 13, as spring brings with it one of the state’s most popular hunting seasons.
“Hunters can only kill one bird per day, but the statewide season allows them to take a total of four birds from their favorite counties,” noted John Mayer, manager of TWRA’s Region 3 office.

There are still excellent hunting opportunities on the agency’s WMAs, all of which have information about them in TWRA’s
2006-07 Tennessee Hunting & Trapping Guide, pages 18 through 20.

The 2006 hunting guide outlines bag limits and regulations.  It also discusses the Young Sportsman Hunt set for March 24-25, a week before the season opens to all other hunters.
Remember, all turkeys harvested must be checked out at the nearest county or WMA checking station.  Only shotguns .20 gauge larger (or archery equipment) is allowed for turkey hunting, while only shot size number 4 or smaller is legal in Tennessee.
