TDOC Hosts Job InfoFest For Inmates

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The Community Resource Board of the Charles Bass Correctional Complex will host a "Job InfoFest" this week. The purpose is to inform inmates about employment opportunities and provide them with leads for contacts upon their release.

Statistics show that 97% of all incarcerated felons will eventually be released from prison. That's why the Tennessee Department of Correction is committed to offering programs that help prepare inmates to lead successful lives.

"With nearly all of the men and women in our institutions coming home one day, we need to decide how we want them when they come back to our communities. I'd like for them to return more prepared to be productive and law abiding than when they left," said Correction Commissioner George M. Little. "Without employers who are willing to give them an opportunity to have careers that support them and their families, offenders face the temptation of returning to a criminal lifestyle," according to Assistant Commissioner of Rehabilitative Services Jim Cosby.

Representatives from various businesses and agencies plan to take part in the event. Employers who hire offenders can receive tax credits and take part in a federal bonding program.
