TDOC Issues Second Reminder to Motorists

WARTBURG, Tenn. - The Tennessee Department of Correction is reminding local motorists to prepare for the second and final round of deliveries of pre-case cells to the Morgan County Correctional Complex.  Possible traffic delays should be anticipated over the next two weeks.

Deliveries of the cells is part of the expansion of the Morgan County Correctional Complex.  TDOC has taken a new approach to building inmate cells which will improve the quality and security features, while shortening the overall construction time of the new prison.  The pre-case concrete modular units were constructed in Atlanta, Georgia and are being trucked in to the Morgan County site.

Shipments will begin arriving in Morgan County on Wednesday, February 28th and run for approximately 14 days.  No shipments will be made on Saturday or Sunday.  Fourteen trucks will deliver loads each day from about noon until 4:00 p.m.  The route is Highway 27 to Wartburg (turning at Sonic) continuing onto State Route 62 to Flat Fork Road.  Local officials, including the Mayor’s office and the school system, will be notified thirty minutes prior to arrival.

“The first delivery in September, 2006 went smoothly.  There has been some inconvenience, but I hope it hasn’t negatively affected anyone,” said Warden David Mills.  “This project is not just a great benefit to our institution.  Hopefully, it will be a great benefit to the local community.”
