Governor Bredesen Proclaims Hire Vets First Month

NASHVILLE—Governor Phil Bredesen has proclaimed the month of November “Hire Vets First Month” in Tennessee.  The U.S. Department of Labor is encouraging states to participate in a 25-day nationwide blitz of job fairs.  The Nashville, Tenn., veterans and transitioning military personnel job fair was held today at the Tennessee Career Center at 2200 Rosa L. Parks Blvd.  Employers and veteran community agencies participated in the event from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

“In honor of all Tennessee Veterans and their families, I am proud to dedicate November as Hire Vets First Month.” Bredesen said. “The experience and talent that our military get from their service to our country is an invaluable asset to Tennessee employers.  Job Fairs like the one held today in Nashville are an excellent opportunity for employers and veteran job seekers to connect.”

“These job fairs help Tennessee veterans and military transition back to civilian life when their tours of duty end,” said Tennessee Department of Labor and Workforce Development Commissioner James Neeley.  The Tennessee Career Centers provide employment services to more than 35,000 veterans annually.”

The Tennessee Career Centers offer a knowledgeable veterans’ staff to provide one-on-one service in matching employer needs with veterans to make the transition from military to civilian work a little easier.  Our services include employment-related testing, training information, skills assessment, assistance with job referral and job search techniques and local job market information.
