Thursday, November 02, 2006 | 06:00pm

Nashville, Tenn. – The Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) announced today it will be closing a portion of Interstate 40 westbound this weekend in order to complete repairs to the bridge over Jefferson Street. The closure will begin at 7PM this Friday, November 3, and end at 5AM Monday, November 6.

The closure involves I-40 westbound from the I-40/I-65 North interchange to the
I-40/I-440 split. Workers will be replacing the joints at each end of the bridge, then pouring new concrete and asphalt.

During the closure, westbound motorists will be detoured to Interstate 440. This will include participants in Saturday’s Race for the Cure at Bicentennial Mall who want to travel west on I-40 following the event. Electronic message boards will be in place throughout the city to direct the public. Please see the enclosed map for a detailed view of the detour.

The I-40 bridges over Jefferson Street serve approximately 85,500 vehicles a day.
