I-40 at the Jefferson Street Overpass Closed Next Two Weekends
Nashville, Tenn. – The Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) announced today a portion of Interstate 40 Eastbound is scheduled to close during the next two weekends in order to perform repairs to the Jefferson Street Bridge. This weekend’s closure will take place from 7pm Friday, October 6 until 5am Monday, October 9. Next weekend’s closure will begin at 7pm October 13, and end at 5am Monday, October 16.

I-40 Eastbound will be closed from Interstate 440 to the I-65 north interchange. Drivers will be detoured to Interstate 440 then back to Interstate 40 East. Electronic message boards will be in place throughout the city to alert motorists of the closure. Please see the enclosed map for a detailed view of the detour.

These closures are part of on an on-going project to make needed repairs to the east and westbound Interstate 40 bridges over Jefferson Street. The work being performed over the next two weekends involves replacing the joints at each end of the eastbound bridge. Crews will be removing the old joints, then installing the new joints, concrete and asphalt.
“Shutting down this section of the roadway will allow the repairs to be performed uninterrupted, making it possible for us to complete the work and reopen the interstate before the peak commuting hours on Monday,” said Regional Director Winston Gaffron.

The I-40 bridge over Jefferson Street serves approximately 85,500 vehicles a day.
