CC208-00- History of Building Codes
History of Building Codes
Overview: Building, Fire, Mechanical, Plumbing, and other codes and standards used by typical building departments are published regularly and contain so much information that is time-tested and ready to enforce. But many in the inspection trade have no idea how these requirements came to be. So much work is involved just in creating, revising, debating, reviewing, and compiling current codes, yet even more development has occurred over centuries and recent decades which can shed light on current practices. This course examines the evolution of codes through history, and conveys the significance of code enforcement, along with the consequences of apathy and negligence as an inspector.
