COVID-19 Guidance From The TN Motor Vehicle Commission

Wednesday, April 01, 2020 | 02:05pm

The coronavirus 2019 (COVID-19) situation is rapidly evolving, and the Governor has called on all Tennesseans to work together to battle the spread of the virus, including employers and individuals alike.  These are unprecedented events, and we ask for your patience as we work to protect your health and the health of the general public while ensuring that we continue to fulfill our mission and provide excellent customer service.  Please note, however, that the Motor Vehicle Commission lacks authority to force dealers to close.

Please be advised at the Governor’s direction the Davy Crockett Tower remains closed to the public.  Though our customers are not able to interact with us face to face, we remain available during normal working hours via email and phone.  We can be reached via phone at 615-741-2711 or email at mvcmail@tn.gov.  We encourage you to access your account online to request renewals, licensure, relocation and other services for which you may have a need.

Please be aware that during this time the printing of all our licenses (dealer, salesmen, etc) has been put on hold.  You will receive your printed license when we are back on site and at full capacity.  Though inspections are continuing a normal schedule, we have directed inspectors NOT to issue citations for failure to display licenses if licensure may be verified in our system.

The Commission strongly encourages all dealers to practice proper hygiene and use extra precautionary measures; for example, frequent use of hand sanitizer, wiping off surfaces, thoroughly washing hands to ensure and keep a sanitary environment during this crisis.  Further we ask that you direct any employee who exhibits symptoms or feels unwell to remain at home and contact their supervisor immediately.  Please note that choosing whether to remain open is currently a business decision; however, individuals also have notably difficult decisions to make in response to the pandemic.

For ease of reference, we have provided links below to resources for safety measures issued from the Tennessee Department of Health and resources issued from the CDC.  The Commission website also includes updates from the CDC.

We hope you find this information helpful, and please let us know if you have additional questions.
