NASHVILLE – The Tennessee State Fire Marshal’s Office (SFMO) will join volunteers from the Dyer Fire Department and the Boy Scouts of America and to install free smoke alarms in homes on Saturday, Feb. 16, 2019 throughout the city of Dyer.

The event is part of the SFMO’s “Get Alarmed, Tennessee!” program which aims to prevent fire deaths in Tennessee’s high-risk areas through the provision of smoke alarms and fire prevention education.

“Partnerships have been critical to the success of the ‘Get Alarmed, Tennessee!’ program,” said Tennessee Department of Commerce and Insurance Commissioner and State Fire Marshal Julie Mix McPeak. “We thank the Dyer Fire Department and the local Dyer Boy Scouts of America troop for their help in making Tennessee a safer place to live and work.”

Since the “Get Alarmed” program’s inception in 2012, the SFMO and Tennessee fire service partners have distributed over 198,000 smoke alarms statewide. Smoke alarms installed through the program are credited with saving 262 Tennesseans from fire danger so far.
