SFMO, Red Cross Join Johnson City Fire Department to Install Free Smoke Alarms Nov. 18

NASHVILLE – The Tennessee State Fire Marshal’s Office (SFMO), the American Red Cross of Northeast Tennessee, and the Johnson City Fire Department will install free smoke alarms in homes throughout Johnson City on Saturday, November 18, 2017.

Working in conjunction with local volunteers, organizers plan to target 500 to 600 homes throughout the city during the one-day canvass. The door-to-door event is part of the SFMO’s “Get Alarmed, Tennessee!” program which aims to prevent fire deaths in Tennessee through the provision of smoke alarms and fire prevention education.

Since the “Get Alarmed” program’s inception in 2012, the SFMO has distributed over 160,000 smoke alarms statewide to 513 partnering organizations and have documented 192 lives saved from an installed "Get Alarmed!" smoke alarm.

Who: The State Fire Marshal’s Office, American Red Cross of Northeast Tennessee, and Johnson City Fire Department.                                                                   

What: “Get Alarmed, Tennessee” smoke alarm installation event. “Get Alarmed Volunteer” orange emergency vests will be used for identification purposes.

When: 8:00 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. (ET) Saturday, November 18, 2017.

Where: Volunteers will meet at the Johnson City Fire Department Main Station, 505 East Main Street, Johnson City, Tennessee 37601.
