NASHVILLE –The Tennessee State Fire Marshal’s Office (SFMO), Jacksboro Fire Department, LaFollette Fire Department, and Campbell County Rural Fire Service will install free smoke alarms in homes throughout Campbell County on Saturday, September 17, 2016.

Working in conjunction with local residents, organizers hope to reach at least 500 homes during the one-day canvass. The door-to-door event is part of the SFMO’s “Get Alarmed, Tennessee!” program which aims to prevent fire deaths in Tennessee through the provision of smoke alarms and fire prevention education.

“Partnerships contribute greatly to the success of this statewide outreach,” said State Fire Marshal and Commerce & Insurance Commissioner Julie Mix McPeak. “Support from the fire service, safety organizations, government officials and beyond boosts our ability to save lives and property through the ‘Get Alarmed’ program.”

Since the Get Alarmed program’s inception in 2012, the SFMO has distributed over 122,000 smoke alarms statewide to 475 partnering organizations. Smoke alarms installed through the program are credited with saving 147 Tennesseans from fire danger so far and helped lower Tennessee’s fire fatality rate to an all-time low in 2015.

“I’m proud to promote this important initiative,” said Rep. Dennis Power, R-LaFollette. “‘The ‘Get Alarmed’ program has made a major impact on public safety in Tennessee and I look forward to helping expand that life-saving effort in Campbell County.”
