Kidde and Morgan Donate 200 Smoke Alarms To “Get Alarmed” Program

NASHVILLE – The Tennessee Department of Commerce & Insurance (TDCI) is proud to announce today the Department’s support for a national fire safety initiative led by country music star Craig Morgan and Kidde Fire Safety.

Morgan, who is a former first responder, and smoke-alarm manufacturer Kidde will help bring working smoke alarms into thousands of homes as Kidde will donate smoke alarms to select fire departments along Morgan’s 2016 tour. Kidde donated 200 of its Worry-Free smoke alarms today to help Tennessee continue its life-saving and industry-leading fire prevention efforts.

“We are thrilled to be a part of this great event,” said TDCI Deputy Commissioner Gary West. “Working smoke alarms play a crucial role in not only keeping citizens safe, but our first responders as well. By providing fire departments with smoke alarms to be installed in residences across Tennessee, we are saving lives and truly making a difference.”

Through its “Get Alarmed, Tennessee!” program, the Tennessee State Fire Marshal’s Office has distributed more than 90,000 smoke alarms to local fire departments who install them in their local communities. Since the launch, this program has saved the lives of at least 106 Tennesseans by providing them with the early alert of a fire in their home.

The U.S. has more than 30,000 fire departments, and 85 percent of them are staffed by volunteer or mainly volunteer firefighters. These men and women protect more than 60 percent of Americans, particularly in rural communities.

However, volunteers have steadily declined, potentially putting families at risk. This important new initiative will serve as a call to action for support of volunteer fire departments across the U.S.
