NASHVILLE – This week marks nine years since over 13 inches of rain fell across Middle Tennessee, causing more than $2 billion in damages and killing 24 Tennesseans as the Cumberland River crested to over 51 feet. Yet even after the 2010 flood’s record devastation, data* collected by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) indicates that less than 2% of Nashville residents have active flood insurance policies. These low numbers are not limited to the mid-state. Only .99% of Knoxville residents, 2.25% of Memphis residents, and 2.15% of Chattanooga residents have active flood insurance policies. Across Tennessee, only 1.14% residents have active flood insurance policies, based on available FEMA data.

– Scooter sharing services, like Bird and Lime, are a growing alternative transportation means in some urban areas of the United States. These battery-powered scooters, which can currently be found in Nashville and Memphis, can reach speeds of up to 20 mph and are generally operated on roadways. While the scooters are easy to operate and readily available, the Tennessee Department of Commerce and Insurance (TDCI) is urging consumers to always consider the insurance implications of operating a scooter before using one.

NASHVILLE – Tennessee consumers have been matched with policies totaling $11,148,069 in the past 12 months through the Life Insurance Policy Locator, a free service provided through the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC) via the Tennessee Department of Commerce & Insurance (TDCI).

NASHVILLE – The Tennessee Department of Commerce and Insurance (TDCI) reminds consumers that Open Enrollment for health insurance coverage on the Federally Facilitated Marketplace (FFM) begins Thursday, Nov. 1, 2018. Tennesseans have until December 15, 2018, to apply for or re-enroll in coverage for the 2019 calendar year.
