TPUC Names New Gas Pipeline Safety Director

Nashville, Tennessee – The Tennessee Public Utility Commission (TPUC) has named Pete Hut to serve as director of the Commission’s Gas Pipeline Safety Division. The announcement was made today by TPUC Executive Director Earl Taylor.

A 10-year member of the Tennessee Public Utility Commission’s Gas Pipeline Safety Division gas pipeline inspection team, Mr. Hut has a thorough knowledge of Tennessee’s natural gas underground pipeline systems, as well as a comprehensive understanding of the federal guidelines under the Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA). PHMSA develops and enforces regulations for states’ pipeline systems.

"We are pleased that Pete will serve as director of the Commission’s Gas Pipeline Safety Division," said Executive Director Taylor. "His experience combined with his years of in the field subject matter knowledge of Tennessee’ natural gas pipeline systems will ensure that our safety standards are maintained. Our systems will be in good hands under Pete’s leadership."

Mr. Hut received a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Tennessee-Knoxville, and has completed post graduate work in geotechnical engineering, drilling design, and oil well production among other courses. In addition, he has completed 24 courses in pipeline safety through the Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration and has performed numerous safety audits on Tennessee’s natural gas systems.

"And I look forward to continuing the division’s work of ensuring that Tennessee’s natural gas operators and systems are safe for the citizens that depend on their services daily."
