On Wednesday, Feb. 11, the Tennessee Department of Safety and Homeland Security (TDOSHS) joined Metro Moore 911 Board Chair, Metro Moore County Mayor Sloan Stewart, Metro Moore Sheriff Tyler Hatfield, Metro Moore County first responders and Jack Daniel Distillery Senior Vice President/General Manager Melvin Keebler to celebrate the opening of the “Old No. 7 Tower” and Metro Moore County’s integration into the statewide Tennessee Advanced Communications Network (TACN).

“I commend Metro Moore County and Jack Daniel’s leadership for investing in the safety of first responders and residents by joining TACN,” said TDOSHS Commissioner Jeff Long. “No matter where you are in Tennessee, even when other means of communication fail, TACN provides seamless communication. When a disaster strikes, communication is key to saving lives.”

The ribbon-cutting ceremony, held at Jack Daniel's Visitor Center in Lynchburg, included representatives from TDOSHS, Metro Moore County E-911 Communications Center, Emergency Management Agency, Fire Department, Emergency Medical Services, Metro Moore Sheriff’s Office and Jack Daniel’s Fire Brigade.

“This is a major milestone for Metro Moore County, a project that’s been nearly three-year in the making,” said Jason Deal Metro Moore County Public Safety Director. “The TACN system enhances our communications and information sharing so we can get the best out of all our agencies in the event of a crisis or disaster.”

Jack Daniel’s Distillery allowed TACN to co-locate on their tower. TACN provided the generator, shelter, and radio equipment. The “Old No. 7 Tower” went live in December and will reach peak performance soon.

To join TACN, Metro Moore County’s 911 Board contributed $1 million to update the 911 center with new consoles and purchase radios for patrol cars and fire trucks. TACN also provided Metro Moore County ambulances with new radios.

Currently, TACN supports more than 73,000 local, state and federal government users statewide. Last year, all state agencies transitioned to TACN to experience the statewide communications interoperability and the cost savings it delivers.
