Description This course is designed to provide officers with additional skills and techniques that expand upon those instructed during the TLETA Basic Police School concerning a single officers response to an active killer scenario. During the period of this instruction, the student will receive a review of active shooter history and response, and law enforcement responses, tactics, and skills necessary for proper contingency planning. This includes but is not limited to active killer/shooter vs. barricaded subjects, weapons manipulation, single and multiple officer responses, Tactical Emergency Casualty Care, room entry techniques, explosive hazards, approaching a crisis site, threat identification, link-up tactics, and post-shooting issues with an emphasis on the use of shoulder fired weapon systems. The student will demonstrate skills and tactics learned in force-on-force scenarios This course includes 8-hours of live firearms training.

Prerequisites

TN POST certified officer who has completed the TLETA Basic Police School Single Officer Active Shooter Response program, or an equivalent program (documentation required for any program other than the TLETA program). Students MUST possess (and submit) a basic patrol rifle certification prior to acceptance.

Materials

Personal protective equipment (Full-face head gear provided by instructors) & groin protection (student provided). Students should bring duty weapon with 3 magazines, duty patrol rifle with 3 magazines (rifle must have a mounted light), duty belt, flashlight(s), and body armor (to include ballistic plates and helmets if available). Students should bring pen, highlighter, and notetaking material. Students are also required to provide 150 rounds of practice ammunition for their duty handgun, and 200 rounds of ammunition for their shoulder fired weapon (rifle).

Other Notes

Students will use their shoulder fired weapon systems for this training evolution. Force on Force training bolts will be provided by TLETA if the student is using a piston driven weapon a substitute rifle may be available for the student (specifically the bolts ARE NOT COMPATABLE WITH HK MR/416 series rifles). Further instructions will be provided via email to accepted students one week from class initiation.
